Set Up Virgin Money Giving Page

Just set up a Virgin Money Giving page: http://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/PennyHaywoodCalder for donations to Practical Action - my inspiration for this 5x50 2013 challenge.

Practical Action uses technology to challenge poverty in developing countries. They say:

"Our strength is our approach. We find out what people are doing and help them to do it better. Through technology we enable poor communities to build on their skills and knowledge to produce sustainable and practical solutions - transforming their lives forever and protecting the world around them."

Founded by the economist Fritz Schumacher (who wrote the seminal book, Small is Beautiful) over 40 years ago, Practical Action each year help around a million people break out of the cycle of poverty ... for good.

Just signed up to 5x50 with 5 days to go till the start

5 days to go and I'm thinking, everyone I know who has done this before looked pretty fit to start with. Just starting to wonder: what have I done?
As a small biz owner, I have really fluctuating workloads, so I'm really not good at sticking to any routine on a daily basis. But my husband, David's doing it, so I've signed up for the  5x50. He's fitter than me as he rows and cycles for 2-3 hours most weeks. My exercise is more sporadic - OK, recently pretty non-existent - so I must be off my chump! Especially as there's a suggested 6-week training plan I've completely by-passed.
But I've paid my entrance fee to Comic Relief.

Chosen my charity: Practical Action as I like their ingenious low-tech solutions devised with people in the areas they work in. Things like solar stoves to save women having to go out and risk being raped in Darfur while collecting firewood to cook for their families. I see things like that and it makes me realise how most of us in the developed world haven't a clue about what real stress is. Where everyday, people you know and/or love are dying needlessly. Where simple decisions about eating, cooking or seeing if someone is OK could cost you your life.
So if I find it tough to run, walk, jog or cycle just 5km a day every day for 50 days, then I just have to think that's half the distance many young kids walk to fetch none-too-clean water for their family with no breakfast in their bellies.
Now I need to set up my Virgin Money Giving page so I can raise some funds for them.
The challenge starts on Sunday, 31st March to 19th May 2013.
One thing in my favour. I've dropped over a stone on the 5:2 diet (showcased on a Horizon programme by Dr Michael Moseley), so I'm lugging less weight around the 250 km challenge (155.3 miles in real money). If nothing else, I should be a lot healthier at the end and will have set up a steady before-breakfast-but-after-a-bit-of-fruit exercise/habit.

Care to join in? It's for a good cause - your health. Plus a chance to support Comic Relief and you can raise funds for your own nominated charity*.
